Welcome to our home page!

About Vintage Sewing School: We are a new start up sewing school in the "Deep East Texas" area in Nacogdoches. We are working on putting together a nice place for students to come and sew. Since this "workshop" is being prepared over the summer, we will not be holding classes this summer. We will start classes this fall and continue through next spring, etc.

Who will we teach? We hope to teach children and adults the "art of sewing". We will offer free demo classes at Hobby Lobby on occasion. The paid classes will be held at Hobby Lobby until we can get our "workshop location" up and running hopefully this fall. Ages 5-12 will be considered our "children" group. Ages 13-21 will be considered our "teenage" group. Ages 21 and up will be considered our adult group.

About the Teacher(s):  My name is Julie Larsen and I have been sewing since I was around age 10. I will admit that I am still learning as an adult. Sewing is that kind of art--you keep learning even when you are older! (If we have another teacher that joins us, we will put her information here).

What will we teach? We plan on teaching "beginner sewing to advanced sewing techniques". We plan to teach the younger age group 5-8 how to hand sew and when they are ready we will have them advance to "machine sewing" techniques. Ages 10 and up can start on machine sewing right away.

Will there be sewing machines available or do I need to bring my own? We do have some "vintage" sewing machines that we hope to use in our school. However, for our younger newbie sewers, I hope to obtain some easier to sew on machines or they can try using the "vintage" ones. All students are welcome to bring their own sewing machines if they own one. I may try to become a sewing machine dealer in the future to help obtain sewing machines easier for our students.

Do you teach a particular method of sewing?
Yes, we teach the children the "Winky Cherry" Method of Sewing which is basically starting with basics of hand and machine and working their way up to harder projects such as patchwork, embroidery, doll making, and more. I also use some ideas from Sewing Projects for Kids website and other books.

What about an adult method?
I think adults can learn basics first and work their way up to harder projects just like the kids, but adults will probably want more "adult" like books to look over. There are some great books out there and I hope to connect you to these soon. I have an amazon.com account and hope to link some books to this website in the future.

Any other questions--go to our "contact us" page tab at top. Thank you.
